The right to vote and the right for our voices to be heard is at the center of American democracy. Some elected officials are using their power to prevent eligible citizens from participating at a local and state level. We now face an escalated voter suppression threat designed to shrink our power – all in the name of the Pence/Kobach commission created by POTUS under the guise of election integrity. At a time when, elected officials are feeding corporate greed, undermining our justice system, rolling back progress on climate change, and eroding labor rights we need to send a message to this administration and all elected leaders not to mess with our right to vote.
Please identify 1 or 2 advocates that could offer a short (1-3 sentence) quote on why voting matters and to send a message to commissioners “Don’t Mess With Our Vote.” Quotes should draw a link to why voting matters and the core issues of your organizations (workers’ rights, climate justice, civil rights, ect.)
People are encouraged to include a picture and to use the hashtag #DontMessWithOurVote. Advocates can post a message on their preferred social media platform but make sure they use #DontMessWithOurVote so we can collect all stories and amplify.
You can send stories and photos to Michelle (firstname.lastname@example.org), make sure you include contact information.

Direct Action #DontMessWithOurVote
The Democracy Initiative is committed to act on behalf of our coalition to coordinate our resistance efforts and actions in the field working with partners and Leadership Conference. This is only the beginning of collective action to both build and exercise our grassroots power.
Now is our time to turn up the volume! We want to send a strong message that this coalition and the broader democracy movement will not let them shrink our voting power. Join the rally on Wednesday, July 19 at 10am to tell the commissioners “Do not mess with our vote.”
Here is how you can mobilize your members:
- MAKE CALLS – Urge members to call the White House comment line at 202-456-1111 on Wednesday, July 19. We can generate thousands of calls to disrupt their business as usual attitude about voter suppression.
- TAKE DIRECT ACTION – Let us know is your organization is/wants to be on the front lines of this fight. You can be part of our rapid response teams and mobilize direct actions.
- SHARE A STORY – We immediately want to identify activists who are speaking out and can share a short quote on why voting matters to them and drawing a link to core issues.
